The UK Working Tax
Credit
The Working Tax Credit, also known as the
Family Tax Credit, may be paid to people working with
low incomes and do not have children. For those who
have disabilities, you may be eligible for additional
benefits. The Working Tax Credit is available to those
who are self-employed or employees.
This benefit includes support for the costs of
qualifying childcare.

To
be
eligible
for
the
Working
Tax
Credit
(Family
Tax
Credit)
you
must
meet
the
following
requirements:
- Age 16 or over
- Work 16 hours or more a week
You
must
also
meet
one
of
the
following
requirements:
- Responsible for a child or qualifying young person
- Have a disability that puts you at a disadvantage in acquiring employment
- Be age 50 or over and be returning to work after a period on benefits
If
these
do
not
apply
to
you,
you
must
be
over
the
age
of
25
and
work
at
least
30
hours
per
week
Your tax credit is based on your
household income and your individual circumstances. You
will be required to provide the following information:
- Your income and work hours per
week
- Partner’s income and their
work hours per week
- Benefits you are currently
receiving
- The number and ages of your
children
- Amount of childcare spent each
week
How Much Is The Working Tax Credit Worth?
You may claim your Working Tax Credit depending on a number
requirements and your annual income. Your credit
payment is made in several different elements:
• Basic Entitlement = £1,665/year
• Second Adult Entitlement =
£1,640/year
• Lone Parent Entitlement =
£1,640/year
• Entitlement for Working 30+ Hours per Week
= £680/year
• Disability Entitlement =
£2,225/year
• Severe Disability Entitlement =
£945/year
• Aged 50+ Entitlement =
£1,140/year (or £1.705 if working 30+ hours per week)
• Childcare Entitlement =
£175/week for one child (£300 for two or more children)
How Do You Apply For The Working Tax Credit?
You may apply by
claiming Working
Tax Credits by
post, reporting
a change of
circumstance by
phone or post,
and by renewing
you tax credits
award by phone
or post when you
receive your
form in April or
May.
You may order a
claim your
packet by
calling the
helpline at 0845
300 3900. Lines
are open daily
except for
Christmas Day,
Boxing Day, New
Year’s Day and
Easter Sunday
from 8:00 am to
8:00 pm.
You may also
pick-up a packet
from the HMRC
Enquiry Centre
or Jobcentre
Plus.
