How Much Is Statutory Maternity Pay? You may claim your benefits in two manners:
You will receive your payment in the same manner that you earn your normal wages. Maternity Pay is treated as wages and your employer will be required to deduct taxes and National Insurance.
To claim Statutory Maternity Pay you must alert your employer at least 28 days prior to your intended day of stopping work. Your employer may require this notice in writing. You may also change your mind on the date that you choose to receive your payments, but you are still required to notify your employer 28 days prior to the new date. You must also provide evidence of pregnancy and the baby’s due date through a maternity certificate that you will receive from your doctor or midwife 20 weeks before the due date.
