How
Much Can You
Claim?
If you are eligible for benefits, you may be able to receive the full travel costs if you use the cheapest form of transportation available. This also includes using any concessions or promotions. If you choose to use your own private vehicle, you may be able to claim the cost of petrol and parking charges up to the cost of the trip by public transportation. The hospital should be able to quote you the mileage rate for petrol costs if you choose to use your own vehicle.
If public transportation is not available or you are unable to use public transportation because of mobility issues, you should contact the hospital prior to your appointment. They will help you make new travel arrangements. If you use the NHS low-income scheme, you may be able to receive all of your travel costs depending on your situation.
