Social Fund
Crisis Loans
If you need help in an emergency or disaster, you may be
eligible for an interest-free loan called the Crisis
Loan. A Crisis Loan does not require that you
receive benefits for eligibility. You may be
required, however, to pay Crisis Loans back after a specific period of time.
It is worth noting that a crisis loan should not affect your
entitlement to any other benefits.

How
Much
can
You
Claim?
There is not limit set on the Crisis Loan. The amount that you will be able to claim depends on your individual circumstances, your savings, and whether or not you have previously borrowed from the Social Fund.
How
Do
You
Pay
Crisis
Loans
Back?
Crisis Loans are required to be paid back. If you qualify for the loan you will have to make an agreement to pay it back. Your Jobcentre Plus advisor will be able to walk you through the loan and repayment plan. The plan will be set so that you will be able to afford to pay it back. If you are on benefits, the loan is normally paid out of your benefit payments. The Crisis Loan does not acquire interest and you only pay back what you have borrowed.
