Claiming Child
Benefit
Any individual, who looks after a child under the age of
16 or 19 if they are enrolled in full-time education,
may be eligible for child benefits. This benefit is
paid per child with higher rates for the oldest child.
It is not a requirement that you are the child’s parent
to obtain the child benefit. Child benefit is not a
contributory benefit and will be paid to you even if you
have not made sufficient National Insurance
Contributions. Child Benefit is a tax-free benefit.
